Soft cake, marshmallow middle, chocolate all the way around. One character brushed across the box, 情, is why this one carries weight other snacks don’t. It’s also the snack that runs the Korean army, and that’s a bigger claim than it sounds.
Orion Choco Pie 情, 30-piece box costs ₩9,800 at Morning Mart, Seoul, as of July 2026. ()
What you get
One character on the front of the box, brushed in white: 情. Under the Orion logo, SINCE 1974. The card clipped to the shelf had ₩18,000 struck through and 각 9,800원 written underneath, for the thirty-piece box.
情 is jeong, the slow, sticky attachment that builds up between people whether anyone planned it or not. Korean does it in one syllable; English needs a paragraph. Orion put that character on a chocolate-covered cake and has never let go of it since.
Where the pie really lives, though, is the army. Basic training, Sunday morning, and religious service is where the Choco Pies get handed out, so the joke about how many denominations a man tried in six weeks is old enough to have grandchildren. Inside the barracks it stops being a snack and becomes currency: traded, hoarded, stacked into a birthday cake with a candle jammed in the top when somebody’s turn comes around. In there it outranks food you’d happily pay for outside. Makes no sense anywhere else. Perfect sense at 6 a.m. in a training camp.
Small print on the box, if you’re the type: 1,170 g and 5,130 kcal for the thirty, so 39 g and about 171 kcal a pie. That figure does not survive contact with a box this size.

| Best for | Sharing at an office, feeding a house full of people, and anyone who wants to eat the snack that shows up in every Korean army story ever told. |
| Would I buy again? | Yes, and always the big box. A six-pack of these has never once been enough. |
Tip: Twenty seconds in the microwave turns the marshmallow molten and the cake soft, and that’s the way to eat one. The other camp keeps the box in the freezer and eats them cold and chewy. Either way, milk.
FAQ
How much is a box of Orion Choco Pie in Korea?
₩9,800 for the 30-piece box at Morning Mart in Seoul, July 2026. Smaller boxes turn up in every convenience store at their own numbers, and a box this size moves around depending on where and when you catch it.
What does the 情 character on the box mean?
It’s jeong, the quiet attachment that grows between people over time: family, neighbors, coworkers included. It’s the word Korean reaches for when English would need a whole sentence, and it’s been the face of this box for decades.
Why is Choco Pie connected to the Korean army?
Because that’s where they get handed out. Religious services at basic training come with snacks, and inside the barracks a Choco Pie works as currency: traded, saved, stacked into a makeshift birthday cake. Every man who’s served has a version of that story.
